3.1.3 VCIM (VoIP and Conference Interface gateway Module)
The VoIP and Conference Interface gateway Module (VCIM) perform protocol translation
between standard H.323 or SIP protocol and the iPECS proprietary protocol or multi-party voice
conferences. The basic VCIM support sixty-four (64) simultaneous DSP channels for VoIP or
conference function. The VCIM contains two (2) processors to support maximum one hundred
twenty eight (128) DSP channels with software license. The main processor manages packet
switching and signaling for all DSP channels. DSPs are employed to support in-band DTMF
detection and transcoding between various codec types for each IP channel. The transcoding
feature enables users to communicate with each other, when the codec between iPECS and
other terminal is different.
The VCIM has two Ethernet interface using an RJ-45 type connector. The first Ethernet port
support a 10/100/1000 Base-T interface port and incorporate auto MDI and MDIX switching
feature allowing use of either straight cable and cross cable. The second Ethernet port supports a
1000 Base-T only.
As shown in Figure 3.1.3-1, the front panels of the VCIM have:
Power jack for the AC/DC adapter; see 3.1.15 AD/DC adapter –G-
