3.1.11 ES8GP (Ethernet Switch, 8-Port Gigabit PoE)
The ES8GP is a nine (9) port Ethernet switch, which switches packets between two specified
ports. The Power over Ethernet Switching Module (ES8GP) has eight (8) LAN ports and an
UPLINK LAN port. All ports support Auto-sense 10/100/1000Mbps, half/full duplex mode and auto
MDI/MDIX function, the latter permits use of both straight-through and crossed cables.
The eight (8) LAN ports of the ES8GP are equipped with circuitry to provide power (48 VDC) to
LIP Phones through the LAN cable. The ES8GP supplies power automatically to terminals in
accordance with the IEEE 802.3af PD (Powered Device) specification. When powered by the
Main Cabinet PSU, the ES8GP can support eight (8) Class 3 devices. When powered by the
AC/DC Adapter, the ES8GP supports four (4) Class 2 or two (2) Class 3 devices. LEDs are
provided on the front panel to display the power feed status of each port. Note the UPLINK LAN
port is not equipped with the power feed circuitry.
In case of connecting the port of ES8GP to another PoE LAN Switch, the port of another PoE
LAN Switch must connect to UPLINK LAN Port of ES8GP.
As shown in Figure 3.1.11-1, the front panel of the ES8GP has:
Power jack for the AC/DC adapter; see 3.1.15 AD/DC adapter –G-
Two (2) green power status LED
PWR1 - + 5 VDC
PWR2 - + 3.3 VDC
Eight (8)-port PoE dual color status LEDs
One (1) RJ-45 Female “UPLINK” LAN connector with Speed
and Link/Activity LEDs
Eight (8) RJ-45 Female LAN connectors with Speed and
Link/Activity LEDs, one per port
On the rear panel, the ES8GP has:
DB-9 RS-232 Serial port connector
Ground Lug
Fifty (50)-pin back plane connector
