GL16 Installation
2-25
Figure 2-34: A normal burner flame should extend
to the top of the ironing cylinder and
mushroom slightly.
15. Within five seconds after the pilot valve
opens, there should be a pilot flame at the
end of the flame pipe near the burner.
If the pilot flame is not present, the
FLAME SAFEGUARD indicator lamp
on the front panel lights, the flame
safeguard SYSTEM ERROR indicator
lamp lights, and the heating system shuts
down. Reset the flame safeguard by
pressing the flame safeguard PILOT
TEST/RESET button twice so the
button is in the OUT position (Figure
2-31). Repeat Steps 9 to 15 until the
flame is present.
NOTE: During installation, it is
common for the pilot flame to not
appear due to excess air in the
gas line. This air is purged through
successive ignition attempts.
16. After the pilot flame is successfully lit,
the burner gas valve opens and the GAS
VALVE indicator lamp should light.
17. Immediately check the manometer pres-
sure indication.
There must be sufficient, steady gas
pressure of 3 1/2" to 5 1/2" (90 to 140
mm) for natural gas, or 10" to 11" (250
to 280 mm) for LP gas as indicated on
the manometer. If the gas pressure is
not within limits, go back to Step 14 to
adjust the installed regulator.
18. Within ten seconds after the burner gas
valve opens, the pilot flame will ignite the
gas in the burner and there should be a
series of flames down the entire length of
the burner.
If the flame is not present at the far
right end of the burner, the FLAME
SAFEGUARD indicator lamp lights and
the flame safeguard will shut down the
heating system. Repeat Steps 8 to 18
until the burner remains lit.
NOTE: Whenever ignition of the
burner is not successful after
several attempts, refer to the
TROUBLESHOOTING chapter. If
the problem cannot be solved,
contact your local CHICAGO
distributor or Chicago Dryer
Company’s factory service
department.
19. Observe the appearance of the flames
along the burner once the burner flame is
maintained. A normal flame should extend
to the top of the inside of the cylinder and
mushroom slightly.
If the flame does not match the above de-
scription, or if there are gas vapor flames
away from the burner, such as below the
burner, the gas/air mixer needs to be ad-
justed. For more information within this
manual, proceed to the REPAIR chap-
ter, Burner System section,
Gas/Air
Mixer Adjustment procedure.
