Operating Principles GL16
5-16
Pilot Flame Ignition Trial (5 seconds plus 5
seconds of diagnostics)
When pre-purge is completed, the pilot flame
trial is initiated. The following events occur during
the next 5 seconds:
1. The IGNITION yellow indicator lamp on
the front panel comes on.
2. The pilot electric gas valve energizes and
opens.
3. The ignition transformer provides 6000 V
to the pilot ignition spark plug.
4. The pilot flame lights.
NOTE: There will be a 9 V to
11 V indication on the front panel
voltmeter whenever a pilot flame
is present during ignition. The
voltage will dip periodically each
time the spokes of the ironing
cylinder interrupt the line of sight
of the UV flame scanner.
5. If the pilot flame does not light within 5
seconds or if it extinguishes for 3 seconds
after the 5-second trial, the following oc-
curs:
Flame safeguard shuts down the igni-
tion transformer and closes the pilot
gas valve.
IGNITION yellow indicator lamp on
the front panel goes out.
A system error produces an alarm out-
put, causing the SYSTEM ERROR red
LED on the flame safeguard to come
on.
FLAME SAFEGUARD red indicator
lamp on the front panel comes on.
Burner Flame Trial (10 seconds)
After the pilot flame remains lit for the 5-second
trial, the 10-second trial for the main burner flame
is initiated.
1. The electric main gas valve energizes and
opens.
2. The GAS VALVE indicator lamp on the
front panel comes on.
3. The main burner flame lights along the
length of the burner from the pilot flame
to the far right end.
4. The relay inside the flame safeguard de-
energizes and switches the UV flame
scanner circuit from the pilot flame scan-
ner in the left end frame to the burner
flame scanner in the right end frame.
NOTE: There will be a 9 V to
11 V indication on the front panel
voltmeter whenever the burner
flame is present. The voltage will
dip periodically each time the
spokes of the ironing cylinder
interrupt the line of sight of the UV
flame scanner.
5. When the burner is successfully lit, the
following events occur:
IGNITION yellow indicator on front
panel lamp goes out.
Pilot gas valve closes after the 10-sec-
ond main burner trial.
Pilot flame goes out.
