| Command Line Abbreviations and Conventions
For the Solaris operating system, we release MegaCLI as a package that can be
installed like any other package installation in Solaris.
For the Novell NetWare operating system, we provide an executable file,
MegaCLI.nlm, that you can execute from any folder. No installation is required. The
output of all of the commands appears in the console window.
5.3 Command Line
Abbreviations and Conventions
This section explains the abbreviations and conventions used with MegaCLI
Configuration Utility commands.
5.3.1 Abbreviations Used in the
Command Line
The following table lists the abbreviations for the virtual drive parameters used in the
following sections.
5.3.2 Conventions There are some options for which you can specify multiple values.
You can enter commands for a single controller (–aN), multiple controllers (-a0,1,2) or
work on all present controllers (-aALL). This is denoted as –aN|-a0,1,2|-aALL in this
document and specifies that you can enter commands for one controller, multiple
controllers, or all controllers.
NOTE: All options in the MegaRAID Command Tool are position-dependent, unless
otherwise specified.
The following table describes the conventions used in the options.

WB WriteBack write policy
WT WriteThrough write policy
ADRA Adaptive Read Ahead read policy
RA Read Ahead read policy
NORA Normal Read policy (No read ahead)
DIO Direct I/O cache policy
CIO Cached I/O cache policy

Convention Description
| Specifies “or,” meaning you can choose between options.
-aN N specifies the controller number for the command.
-a0,1,2 Specifies the command is for controllers 0, 1, and 2. You can select two or
more controllers in this manner.
-aALL Specifies the command is for all controllers.
-Lx x specifies the virtual drive number for the command.
