10.1.2 Handling rechargeable batteries
• Always handle rechargeable batteries with care.
• Do not short circuit the battery contacts (e.g. by touching both poles with
a metal plate).
• Do not drop, damage or dismantle the batteries.
• Only recharge the batteries as directed in this operating manual.
Charging the rechargeable batteries: see page 3-3
• Do not continuously charge the batteries.
• Do not expose the batteries to high temperatures for long periods of
time, whether inside or outside the instrument.
• Do not leave discharged batteries in the instrument for long periods.
• Do not store batteries for more than six months without discharging and
recharging them.
10.1.3 Lithium battery
When the batteries are no longer able to supply sufficient power, the lithium
battery provides power for:
• the data memory
• the clock
• the USER settings
• the settings used just before the instrument was last switched off.
Note: The lithium battery has a life of about 10 years. The first indication
that it needs replacement might be an incorrect time or a loss of
USER settings. If this happens, send the entire instrument to one of
our Service Centers for a replacement lithium battery.
