(2) Install the flap handle (29) with bracket (28) by placing the assembly on the floor tunnel and
secure with bolts.
(3) Install the flap control cable (23) by the following procedure:
(a) Attach the cable and turnbuckle (25) to the flap handle arm and secure with clevis bolt,
nut and cotter pin (26). Ascertain that the turnbuckle end is free to rotate on the arm.
(b) Route the cable through the tunnel and spar housing.
(c) Install the cable rub blocks on the aft side of the spar housing and secure with screws.
(d) Install cotter pin cable guard over pulley (24) located just ahead of the spar housing in the
floor tunnel.
(e) Attach the cable end to the tension chain (20) and secure with bushings, clevis bolt, nut
and cotter pin. If the chain is not installed because of the torque tube assembly being
removed, install the assembly as given in step (1) (g).
(f) Pull the flap handle (29) full back and connect the tension spring (22) to the cable end.
(4) Install the tunnel cover and secure with screws. Also, the tunnel carpet and bracket cover.
(5) Install and secure the seats.
C. Rigging and Adjustment
CA
UTION: DO NOT ROTATE THE TORQUE TUBE WHILE ADJUSTING CABLE TENSION OR
TIGHTEN ENOUGH TO ALLOW TUBE TO BE PULLED AWAY FROM ITS STOPS.
CA
UTION
: VERIFY FREE AND CORRECT MOVEMENT OF FLAPS. WHILE IT WOULD SEEM
SELF-EVIDENT, FIELD EXPERIENCE HAS SHOWN THAT THIS CHECK IS
FREQUENTLY MISINTERPRETED OR NOT PERFORMED AT ALL. ACCORDINGLY,
UPON COMPLETION OF FLAP RIGGING AND ADJUSTMENT, VERIFY THAT THE
FLAPS MOVE UP WHEN THE SELECTOR LEVER IS UP; AND, THAT THE FLAPS
MOVE DOWN WHEN THE SELECTOR LEVER IS DOWN.
NOTE: Flap adjustment must be completed before beginning aileron adjustment.
(1) Place the flap handle in the full forward position (i.e. - flaps up).
(2) If not previously removed, remove the bottom half of the rear seat.
(3) Adjust the flap up stop and step lock as follows:
(a) Loosen the jam nut of the right torque tube stop screw, located in the floor opening along
the outer end of the flap torque tube
(b) Turn the stop screw to obtain approximately 0.60 inch between the stop fitting and the
bearing block as measured along the top side of the screw. (Refer to Figure 2.) It may be
necessary to loosen the left stop adjustment screw.
(c) Place a 0.125 inch spacer between the stop fitting and the end of the screw.
(d) Check that, when pressure is applied down on the flap, it will remain in the up lock
position. If it extends, turn the adjustment screw out a few threads at a time until the flap
remains in the up lock position with the spacer inserted. Tighten the jam nut.
(e) Rotate the left stop adjustment screw until it contacts the stop fitting. Tighten the jam nut.
(f) Remove the 0.125 inch spacer.
(g) Set the flap control cable tension (handle next to floor, 0 degrees) as given in Chart 2, 27-00-00
at turnbuckle attached to the low end of the flap handle in the floor tunnel. (Remove the
flap handle cover and enough tunnel carpet to remove the tunnel cover just aft of the
handle.)
(h) Adjust and safety the turnbuckle.
