When power is applied to the Raystar 100 GPS
sensor for the very first time, the GPS unit must
locate and identify three or more satellites before
determining the vessel’s actual L/Lposition. The GPS receiver already has
a built-in profile of each satellite’s signal coding, so it becomes a matter of
sampling the incoming GPS signals and comparing the profiles until you get
signal coding matches for the
satellites
in view.
This sampling process, similiar to matching fingerprints, is extremely
complex.
So,atirst
time start-up
ofthe
GPS
sensorbyitselfcould
take from
20 to 30 minutes before the unit actually provides the first output of the
ship’s Latitude/Longitude position. However, by using the
V8010
display
unit, the operator can aid the receiver and get the first GPS
frx
in approxi-
mately 2 to 3 minutes by entering the vessel’s approximate geographic
position in Latitude and Longitude. the GPS Antenna Height, and the
UTC Date and Time.
Once you’ve entered this data into the unit, the GPS
“remembers”all
of
the information in memory. The next time you use
the GPS, the only thing you’ll have to do is turn it
“on”. In just a few minutes, your position will be
SATELLITE STATUS
displayed.
