MAINTENANCE
4.1 GENERAL
Maintaining satisfactory
operation
of your
VSOlO
can depend on how well
you care for the equipment. The simple maintenance tips that follow can
save you time and money, as well as prevent unnecessary-premature failures
when the unit is most needed.

Always keep the equipment as clean as possible. After use in salt
spray or in adverse weather, wipe the unit clean with a soft cloth. Use
glass cleaners or suitable general purpose detergent for cleaning the
surface filter, control panel, cabinet, etc. Do not use abrasive
cleansers, chemical cleaners or solvents on the unit.

Periodically check system hardware. Inspect the antenna and mount,
cables, and transducer making sure all components are free of
corrosion and are securely mounted. Examine all cables for evidence
of chafing or abrasions. Clean and/or repair as necessary. Make sure
connections to the ship’s DC power and the RF ground system are
clean and tight. A light coating of a high insulation silicon grease on
connector pins can protect the contacts from corrosion.

Paddle Wheel Maintenance
If you have opted to install the optional Speed!Ibmperature sensor, the
unit will require maintenance at prescribed intervals. In particular, if the
boat is left in the water for several weeks without use, the speed paddle
wheel could develop a buildup of marine growth during the static periods.
If this situation is likely, it is recommended that the paddle wheel assembly
be removed and stored during these idle periods as a preventive measure.
The blank plug assembly is provided for this purpose.
