The UTC time is entered in ‘hours” and then ‘minutes” in the 24 hour
format. This means that 9:00 AM is
09:00,
while 1:00 PM is 13:OO; 9:00 PM
is
21:00,
etc. So,
ifthe
time is
6:25

If you make an error entering the numeric value, just continue typing the
numbers until the sequence is input correctly on the display. Then press
the-1
key. If the UTC time is correctlydisplayed,just
press-
to complete the initialization of the GPS and return to the SATELLITE
STATUS
screen.
Once the unit has received the initialization input it will memorize all of
the information into its internal memory. So when the unit is switched ON
for regular day-to-day use position data is often
ava.ilable
within the first
few minutes of operation.
This will occur as long as you are within approximately 100 NM from the
same L/L position where the unit was turned OFF. If you move the vessel
a substantial distance from where the GPS was last used, the unit may
start-up using the cold start-up routine (20-30 minutes to get yourposition).
You
could quickly update the initialized data to obtain a quicker position
fix in such a situation.

Once

has been pressed by completing
the UTC Date
&
Time entry, the display reverts
back to the Satellite Status display and satellite
acquisition and tracking begins. An
S
(search)
warning flashes in the message box in the lower
right comer of the display indicating the acquisi-
tion phase is active.
The Satellite Status page shows the receiving
conditions for the GPS satellites. The ID numbers
of the received satellites appear along the top row
of the upper boxed section of the display labeled
SAT

The satellites used to calculate your posi-
tion are highlighted in the boxes.

The second row
AzM
shows the general Azimuth position or angle of the
received satellites. The indicators show that the satellites are to the W
(West) or NW (Northwest), S (South), etc. from your position.
