If the unit should be unable to find the satellites for some reason, and the
initialized data has been verified as correct
,
the receiver can be forced to
begin a complete satellite search to refresh the satellite orbit information
in memory by pressing
thmkey
on the S
AT
ELLITE
STATUS display.
To execute the Satellite Search mode, press
the(SEARCHTHESKYlsoftkey
followed bypressing
the[mkey.AOSEARCHTHESm’
or
‘SS”message
will appear in the display message windows showing the Search mode is
activated. Once the satellites have been identified and a tixcalculated, ship’s
position can be displayed and the unit will be ready for navigation.

HDOPLEVEL
There may be some periods when the satellite geometry is not ideal for
obtaining the highest accuracy
fixes.
The
V8010
can be programmed to only
accept the most accurate
fixes,
medium quality fixes, or all fixes based on
pre-determined HDOP values. To make an accuracy selection,perform the
following steps:
Press

repeatedly for the desired selection.
FIN-E
HDOP less than 5
Most Accurate
MEDIUM
HDOP less than 10
Medium Accuracy
COARSE
HDOP less than 20 Less Accurate
It is recommended that during the constellation build-up period the
Echostar be set to the
-IUM
level. Once full GPS coverage is in place,
then the
FINE
level setting should be selected. This is expected to occur
sometime later in 1993 according to the Department of Defense.
To make the HDOP selection, just press
the-1
softkey
until the
desired HDOP level is highlighted with the bar. PINE is selected when the
bar is completely highlighted.
Press/s(to
return to the SATELLITE STATUS display.
