Chapter 6 Configure and Start the Kinetix 5500 Drive System
When the test completes successfully, the Test State changes from
Executing to Passed.
7. Click OK.
This dialog box appears asking if the
direction was correct.
8. Click Yes.
9. Click Accept Test Results.
10. If the test fails, this dialog box
appears.
a. Click OK.
b. Verify the DC bus voltage.
c. Verify unit values entered in the
Scaling category.
d. Verify the motor power and feedback wiring.
e. Return to step 6
and run the test again.
Tune the Axes
Choose the tuning procedure best suited for your motor type.
Tune Permanent Magnet Motors
The load observer feature provides high-performance motion control without
having to manually tune your axis. Using load observer with a default set of
gains can yield high-performance right out of the box. Most of the time, there
is no need to perform an autotune procedure or further optimize gain settings.
Follow these steps to configure the drive for high performance by using the
load observer feature.
1. Verify that the load is connected.
Reattach the load if it was disconnected for the Hookup Test.
2. Click the Autotune tab in the Axis Properties dialog box.
a. From the pull-down menus for Application Type, Loop Response, and
Load Coupling, choose Custom, Medium, and Rigid settings,
respectively.

ATTENTION: If the drive has not been enabled before (new
installation), verify that you have safeguards in place to safely
remove power from the drive if there is an unstable situation where
the drive can produce undesired motion.
