2 On safety
This chapter concerns your own safety and the safety of the equipment operator.
Please read this chapter carefully before you begin working with the Bulkscan.
2.1 Authorized personnel
The Bulkscan must only be installed, commissioned, and serviced by adequately quali-
edpersonnel.
Risk of damage!
RepairworkonBulkscanmayonlybeperformedbyqualiedandauthorizedservice
personnel from SICK AG.
Thefollowingqualicationsarenecessaryforthevarioustasks:

2.2 Correct use
The Bulkscan is a non-contact optical sensor for the measurement of volume, volume
owrate,mass,massowrate,determiningthecenterofgravityofbulkonconveyor
belts, monitoring of the bulk edges and monitoring of the conveyor belt edges.
It must only be used by authorized personnel and only in industrial environments.
IntheeventofanyotherusageormodicationtotheBulkscan,e.g.,duetoopeningthe
housing during mounting and electrical installation, or to the SICK software, any claims
against SICK AG under the warranty will be rendered void.
TheBulkscanmustonlybeoperatedinthespeciedambienttemperaturerange(see
"11.1 Bulkscan LMS511 data sheet“ on page 68).
2.3 General safety notes and protective measures

Observe the following to ensure the correct and safe use of the Bulkscan.
• The notes in these operating instructions (e.g., regarding the use, mounting, installa-
tion or integration into the machine controller) must be observed.
