SECTION 8J. LIFT CYLINDER
GENERAL
The mower uses a single lift cylinder to lift and lower
the mowing deck.
REMOVAL
See Section 9E.
DISASSEMBLY
1. Clean and air dry the exterior of the cylinder.
2. Drain the oil from the cylinder.
3. Disassemble the lift cylinder (Figure 8J-1).
a. Use snap ring pliers to remove the lock ring.
b. Pull the rod assembly out of the rod guide.
c. Disassemble the piston.

INSPECTION
1. Inspect all parts for excessive wear, cracks, bro-
ken parts, and scoring.
2. Discard all o-rings, seals, and backup rings.
ASSEMBLY
1. Lightly lubricate the o-rings, backup rings, and
seals with clean hydraulic oil.
2. Install the seal kit (Figure 8J-2).
3. Lubricate all parts with clean hydraulic oil before
assembly.
4. Assemble the lift cylinder (Figure 8J-3).
a. Assemble the rod guide and install on the rod.
b. Assemble the piston.
c. Lubricate the rod, guide, and piston assembly.
d. Push the assembly into the barrel.
e. Using snap ring pliers, install the lock ring.
CAUTION
During repair of the cylinder, use extreme care not to
damage the barrel, rod, and sealing surfaces of the
cylinder.
