SECTION 12E. FLAIL MOWER

FLAIL MOWER INSPECTION
The flail mower should be inspected before each use.
Check the housing for cracks, dents, and damage.
Inspect the caster wheels for proper inflation, lubrica-
tion, mobility, and secure mounting. Check safety/lift
chains for proper attachment, wear, and damage.
Inspect the weight transfer springs for stretching, wear,
damage, and secure mounting. Check the roller and
rotor bearings for excessive wear and damage. Check
belt tension. Check for proper lubrication.
REMOVAL
1. Start the engine and raise the mower to the flail
mower stops. Remove the weight transfer springs
from the upper anchor bolts.
2. Lower the mower completely with safety/lift chains
fully extended.
3. Engage parking brake, disengage all drives, shut
down the engine, and remove the ignition key.
4. Disconnect the safety/lift chains from the mower.

WARNING
To prevent serious injury, always disengage all
drives, lower implement to the ground, engage park-
ing brake, stop engine, and remove ignition key
before adjusting, cleaning, or repairing the equip-
ment.
Safety/lift chains wrapped around the lift cylinder
frame provide stability and safe suspension for lifting
the mower. Weight transfer springs provide suspen-
sion and stability for the mower deck.
WARNING
The mower deck blades may be very sharp. Use
thickly padded gloves when handling the blades to
prevent personal injury.
WARNING
Allow hydraulic components to cool completely
before removal from the tractor.
