DISASSEMBLY
1. Loosen the jam nut (Figure 6D-3) and remove the
ball joint from the rod assembly.
2. Push the rod assembly into the barrel.
3. Using snap ring pliers, remove the lock ring.
4. Pull the rod, rod guide, and piston out of the bar-
rel.
5. Remove the rod guide from the rod assembly.
6. Place the rod in a soft jaw vise or place wooden
blocks between the vise jaws and rod.
7. Remove the piston nut.
8. Inspect the cylinder components for excessive
wear, scratches, and burrs. Replace parts as
needed.
9. Remove all seals and packing from the piston and
the rod guide inside and out.
WARNING
Use appropriate eye protection when using com-
pressed air for cleaning or drying purposes. Com-
pressed air can cause serious personal injury. Use
safety reduction valves to reduce the air pressure to
a safe level before use.
NOTICE
Small scratches and burrs can be removed with
emory cloth or light sand paper.
NOTICE
When disassembling the piston and rod guide take
notice of the position of each seal and backup ring.
Save seals and components for comparison to seal
kit parts.
