BRAKE SYSTEM
5C-5
SECTION 5C. PARKING BRAKE
GENERAL
The brake system used on the TurfCat 600 series is a
mechanical drum brake system actuated by a left and
right brake linkage. The drum brakes act as service
brakes and a parking brake.
The brake housing (Figure 5C-1) contains the brake
shoes, springs, brake drum, and actuating lever.
LINKAGE
The brake linkage (Figure 5C-1) is connected between
the brake pedal and the actuating lever. When pushed,
the brake pedal pulls on the rod linkage, which pulls the
actuating lever. The actuating lever has a cam type
lobe, which pushes the inner brake shoes against the
brake drum, stopping the tractor.
When released, a return tension spring moves the
actuating lever to the released position. As the shoes
wear, the linkage can be adjusted to compensate for
the wear.
