7. Lubricate the inside of the barrel with clean
hydraulic oil. Install the rod assembly and rod
guide carefully into the barrel.
8. Push the rod guide down into the barrel and clear
of the lock ring groove (Figure 6D-4).

9. Using the snap ring pliers, install the lock ring the
barrel ring groove.
10.Pull the rod assembly outward to seat the rod
guide against the lock ring.
INSTALLATION
1. Inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering cyl-
inder, mounting spacer, and flat washer.
2. Position the steering cylinder for installation on the
axle and secure with a bolt, flat washers, spacer,
and nut.
3. Install the ball joint on the steering arm and secure
with the castle nut and cotter pin.
4. Using the tags created during disassembly, con-
nect the hydraulic hoses to the cylinder.
5. Start the machine and check for hydraulic leaks
and cylinder operation. Repair as necessary.
6. Check the steering toe-in and turn stop adjust-
ments as described in Section 6E and in the Parts
and Maintenance manual.
