11.3.7 Sterilization
Sterilization of transducers is not possible. Follow the instructions for cleaning and disinfection instead:
• Endocavity transducers: 11.3.6
• Non-invasive transducers: 11.3.5.1.and 11.3.5.2.
11.4 SHIPPING TRANSDUCERS FOR SERVICE
It is the customer's responsibility to ensure:
• each transducer is disinfected prior to shipping (11.3.5 and 11.3.6)
• the transducer is properly packaged for shipment (11.3.3.2)
• all shipping waybills/paperwork is completed as per the relevant regulations and laws.
Refer to 7.6 Returning Parts for Service/Repair/Replacement for more details on transducer return or replacement.
Note: Where transducers (non-critical and semi-critical medical devices/equipment) cannot withstand
sterilization, the FDA recognizes the use of a sterile gel and a sterile transducer cover as an acceptable
method of infection control for ultrasound transducers.
