Playlist Conventions
When generating HLS streams it is important to understand the conventions used for
creating playlists so they can be played via an HTTP URL.
HDS Streaming
To access the HDS Streaming fields:
1. Navigate to
Output Configuration > HDS Streaming.
HDS (Adobe MPEG-4 based HTTP adaptive file streaming protocol) is an HTTP-based
media streaming protocol implemented by Adobe. It works by breaking the overall stream
into a sequence of small HTTP-based downloads, each download loading one short chunk of
a video stream. As the stream is played, the client can select from a number of different
alternate streams containing the same material encoded at a variety of data rates, allowing the
streaming session to adapt to the available data rate. At the start of the streaming session, it
downloads an extended f4m playlist containing the metadata for the various substreams
which are available. Since its requests use only standard HTTP transactions, HDS is capable
Akamai Distribution
This field provides information on Akamai distribution for the HLS
stream and will be updated based on the stream’s current status as
demonstrated above. Akamai distribution can be automatically set up
for your Rev Webcasts within the Rev interface. The push to Akamai
will begin when the Webcast is started within Rev, and ended when it
is ended in Rev. All control of the Akamai push is within Rev. Please
see the Rev Online help topic “Add HLS and HLS Akamai
Publishing Point Streams” for details on how to set up automatic
pushes to Akamai.
Note: Editing the name and or first sub-stream for a stream created
on Rev with Akamai push, will disassociate Akamai distribution. The
stream will need to be recreated on Rev to reestablish Akamai
distribution.
Additional sub-streams (numbered 2-4) can be added to each index
to provide MBR. Once the stream is set up in Rev and
communicated to DME, Administrators can come to this page,
locate the appropriate HLS stream and add addition input streams to
create an MBR.
