Waisted Studs − Loosen and Apply Tension

1. General
The 1

main bearing cover (2, Fig. 2) has only two waisted studs. You use the same
double pre-tensioning jacks (94114B). Connect only the applicable jack to the
hydraulic unit.
1) If installed, remove the temperature monitor for piston cooling from the main
bearing cover before you install the double pre-tensioning jacks (94114B).
2) Clean the threads of the waisted studs (9, Fig. 1) and the faces of the round
nuts (7).
3) Apply oil to the threads of the waisted studs (9).
Note: Do the procedure given in 9403−4 General Application Instructions for
pre-tensioning jacks.
2. Pre-tension Jacks − Install
1) Put the double pre-tensioning jacks
(94114B) in position on the studs (9).
2) Open all vent screws (1).
3) Push the pistons (10) against the
double cylinders (8) with round nuts (7)
until there is little or no clearance
at (X).
4) Use the round bar (3) to turn back the
round nuts (7) approximately ¾ of a
turn to get the clearance (4).
Note: To apply tension to the waisted
studs, the round nuts (2) must be
on the piston.
