MEASURING THE BACKLASH
Forward gear
1. Install a dial-gauge set on to the gear-
case.
2. Install a backlash indicator-rod on the
drive-shaft, and make the dial-gauge
stem contact the mark on the indicator-
rod.
3. Place the shift-rod in neutral.
NOTE:
Water pump components should be
removed.

4. Install a bearing-housing puller in the
bearing-housing, to engage with the
center bolt of the propeller shaft.
