[SENSe:]CURRent:{AC|DC}:RANGe{<range>|MIN|MAX|DEF}
[SENSe:]CURRent:{AC|DC}:RANGe? [{MIN|MAX|DEF}]
Selects a fixed measurement range for AC or DC current measurements on the 3 A terminals. Although the 34461A
has a 10 A range, you cannot select the 10 A range with this command. To select the 10 A range, use [SENSe:]
CURRent:{AC|DC}:TERMinals 10 or use CONF:CURRent:{AC|DC} 10.
This parameter is not shared between AC and DCmeasurements. The parameters are independent for AC
and DCmeasurements.
On the 34461A, use the [SENSe:]CURRent:{AC|DC}:TERMinals command to specify which current
terminals to use for the measurement.
Parameter Typical Return
<range>: {100 µA|1 mA|10 mA|100 mA|1 A|3 A}, default is AUTO
(autorange)
+1.00000000E-01
Configure AC current measurements using the 1 A range. Make and read two measurements:
CONF:CURR:AC
CURR:AC:RANG 1
SAMP:COUN 2
READ?
Typical Response: +1.04530000E+00,+1.04570000E+00
l Selecting a fixed range ([SENSe:]<function>:RANGe) disables autoranging.
l If the input signal is greater than can be measured on the specified manual range, the instrument displays the
word Overload on front panel and returns "9.9E37" from the remote interface.
l Note that unlike CONFigure and MEASure?, this command does not support the 10 A range. Selecting the 10 A
terminal with [SENSe:]CURRent:{AC|DC}:TERMinals forces the specified type of current measurements to use
the 10 A range, but it does not affect the values of [SENSe:]CURRent:{AC|DC}:RANGe or [SENSe:]CURRent:
{AC|DC}:RANGe:AUTO.
l Changing the value of this parameter always changes the measurement resolution. The number of PLCs (NPLC)
stays fixed, and this results in a change of resolution in terms of the units of the measurement. For example, if
you have a measurement with 1 µA resolution on the 100 mA range, changing to the 1 A range will result in a
resolution of 10 µA.
l This parameter is set to its default value after a Factory Reset (*RST) or Instrument Preset (SYSTem:PRESet).
