ONT Product Information Guide
IGMP functionality
IGMP is a network-layer protocol used to establish membership in a multicast group
and not to carry user data. When enabled on these ONTs, IGMP possesses fast-leave
capabilities as well as proxy and snooping functions.
Also, the IGMP engine on the ONT features explicit host-tracking of IGMP requests.
If two set-top boxes are seeking to access the same multicast channel, and one of
them is leaving the channel, then the router will keep the channel available for the
other set-top box.
UPnP
UPnP is a distributed open networking standard that uses TCP/IP for simple
peer-to-peer network connectivity between devices. A UPnP device can dynamically
join a network, obtain an IP address, convey its capabilities, and learn about other
devices on the network. Also, a UPnP device can leave a network smoothly and
automatically when it is no longer in use.
Since the G-241W-P and I-241W-T indoor ONT can act as a router for networks with
multiple devices, they have UPnP for their WAN traffic.
