16.2 I-010G-P, I-020G-P, and I-040G-P general description
I-010G-P, I-020G-P, or I-040G-P indoor ONTs provide a subscriber interface for the
system. The ONT terminates the PON interface and converts it to user interfaces that
directly connect to subscriber devices. The ONT is compatible with all existing
subscriber equipment, including analog phones with both tone and rotary dial
capabilities, cordless phones, modems, fax machines, and caller ID boxes (Type I,
Type II, and Type III).
Voice, video, and data are supported by these ONTs. Voice capability through the
Ethernet interface is supported with an interfacing external IAD box or home router
to enable VoIP access. Video contents can be delivered in the form of data by
multicast or unicast technology. For example, where multicast technology is used,
these ONTs support a dedicated multicast GEM port on the downstream so the video
content is received and processed by the ONTs through a unified channel, which
greatly improves bandwidth efficiency. IGMP snooping function is also supported
for further optimization. When IGMP snooping is enabled, the member joining and
leaving activities are monitored by the ONT at the Ethernet service port, then
selectively delivers the multicast streams.
