6 Commissioning
6.1 Generating a Configuration File
The configuration file is generated and/or modified using the VIPA Config Tool.
Please refer to the VIPA Config Tool help for details.
6.2 Connecting to the iPAM400
iPAM400 provides software tools such as the Setup Tool and commands which are run remotely from a host
PC over the network or locally from a keyboard and monitor directly connected to the iPAM400.
1. Remote connection:
a. Via a host PC running Windows 2000 (or above):
A PuTTY session between the iPAM400 and the host running Windows is required.
PuTTY is free and open source software. It can be downloaded from:
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/
Download the Windows version. No installation is required.
b. Via a host PC running Linux:
A simple SSH (Secure SHell) session between the iPAM400 and a host running under Linux is
required.
OpenSSH is required in order to open a SSH session, and it is normally installed with Linux.
Please refer to your Linux documentation.
The iPAM400 IP address or hostname will be required for connecting to the iPAM400. Check the
system design documentation to find the IP address or hostname.
2. Local connection:
a. Via a monitor and a USB keyboard directly connected to the iPAM400.
b. Via a PC running a terminal emulator connected to the iPAM400’s RS232 serial port.
