6.2.3 Connecting Locally to the RS232 Serial Port (via Terminal Emulator)

You will require a NULL modem cable and the iPAM400 passwords in order to connect to the
iPAM400 via a Terminal Emulator connected to the serial port.
Contact ASL Customer Care department to obtain the required passwords.
To Connect to the iPAM400:
1. Power and start the iPAM400, if not already
done.
2. Connect a NULL modem cable from the PC to
the RS232 serial port on the iPAM400.
3. Run the Terminal Emulation program of your
choice (e.g., PuTTY, Tera Term, etc.) and set
the communications parameters to:
• 9600 bits per second
• No parity
• 8 data bits
• 1 stop bit.

The rear RS232 PORT is also duplicated on the front
of the iPAM400, behind the removable front panel.
The front panel RS232 PORT may stop working if an
Audio I/O Expansion Module is fitted to the iPAM400.
4. Connect the Terminal Emulation program to
the iPAM400.
5. Press the Enter key a few times until the
Linux login prompt is displayed.
6. Log onto the VIPA device under the "vipet"
username with the password provided by ASL.
