7.9.6 RFIDscanner (optional)
The multi-frequency RFIDscanner and the optional RFIDtags are accessories which have
been factory-tested and adapted to the device. The RFID(RadioFrequencyIDentification)
procedure is intended for electronic identification of objects by means of radio transmission. An
RFIDsystem consists of two components: an RFIDscanner and an RFIDtransponder
(RFIDtag). Each RFIDtag is provided with a worldwide unique UIDno. (unique identifier) which
can be read by means of the RFIDscanner and assigned to a test sample without any contact.
For periodic inspection of electrical equipment, radio frequencies of 125kHz(LF) and
13.56MHz(HF) prevail. RFIDtechnology offers the advantage that it can be applied
continuously and reliably even in harsh industrial environments.
Please observe that metallic surfaces strongly influence the radio connection. The direct contact
of an RFIDtag to a metallic surface should be avoided. To transmit the UIDno. of the RFIDtag,
the tag must be moved to the marked reception area of the RFIDscanner.
Requirements
• Please observe the operating manual of the respective RFIDscanner.
• The RFIDtag must not be placed on a metallic surface.
Procedure– Putting the RFIDscanner into operation
1. Switch on the device.
2. Connect the connecting cable of the RFIDscanner to a USB-Aport of the device.
The statusLED of the RFIDscanner lights up and an acoustic signal is emitted. The
RFIDscanner is ready for operation.
If the connection fails, restart the device as well as the RFIDscanner and repeat the
commissioning.
To disable the RFIDscanner, press and hold the button of the RFIDscanner for approx.
12seconds. Press the button again to re-enable the RFIDscanner.
Procedure– Operating the RFIDscanner
You can create and select test samples using the RFIDscanner in the database as well as
during the test procedure (automatic and manual tests according to VDE). Instead of entering
the test sample identification number manually, the identification number is scanned using the
RFIDscanner. The identification number will be entered automatically.
