8.5 Assembly and adjustment of the knife
ATTENTION The following adjustments must be carried out only by
specialised personnel that have a thorough knowledge of the machine functions.
Before starting this operation remove the key switch to manual functioning in
order to exclude the safety guards. Handle the knife with care.
Before following adjustments are to be carried out before starting this operation.
a) Stop the machine when the sealing jaws are in the open position.
b) Disconnect the main electrical supply.
c) Dismantle the back guard (Fig.8.5.1 pos. 1)
d) Loosen the blocking ring (5-6 turns) (Fig.8.1.3 pos.1) of the torque limit by means of
a section spanner that you can find in the machine tool box (only with mechanical
torque limiter).
a. Re-assemble the guard and connect the electrical supply to the machine, wait for
the jaws to reach the imposed temperature.
Assembling of the anvil on the bottom jaw (counter knife)
(
Fig.8.1.1
pos. 1)
a) Insert the anvil into the groove of the bottom jaw with the curved side facing up.
b) Push the knife down until it pushes against the bottom. Make sure the groove is
clean before you insert the anvil.
c) Tighten the grub screws lightly.
d) With a piece of bronze or aluminium knock the anvil down so that it is pushed
completely against the bottom of the groove.
e) Fasten tightly the blocking grub screws.
Assembling of the knife on the upper jaw.
(
Fig.8.1.1
pos. 2)
1) Loosen the blocking grub screw (Fig.8.2.1 pos. 1).
2) Loosen the conical grub screw (Fig.8.2.2 pos. 2).
3) Insert the knife into the groove of the upper jaw, make sure the groove is free of dirt;
the inclined part is to go against the conical grub screw. Now rotate the jaws by
turning the hand wheel. Slightly press the grub screws against the knife (Fig.8.2.2 pos.
1).
4) Turn the jaws on each other in order to allow the knife to settle, turn the blocking grub
screws slightly in order to hold the knife in position.
5) Turn the conical grub screws until they touch the knife (Fig.8.2.1 pos. 1).
6) Take a piece of film approximately 500 mm. long and fold it in two, place it between
the jaws and rotate them manually at a speed more or less equivalent to the speed of
the jaws during normal working conditions.
7) Check to see that the knife has cut the material.
8) If this has not occurred, loosen the blocking screws and slightly turn the conical grub
screws, on the side where it has least cut (for example if the material is not cut in the
centre, only slightly turn the centre conical grub screw). After the adjustment
remember to fasten the blocking grub screw or screws.
9) Once the adjustment of the knife has been completed, fasten the grub screws (Fig.8.2.2
pos.1).
10) Disconnect the electrical supply.
11) Dismantle the back guard (Fig.8.5.1 pos.1).
12) Fasten he slip torque rings 5-6 turns (Fig. 8.1.3 pos. 1) with a section spanner
supplied with the machine (only with mechanical torque limiter).
13) Re-assemble the back guard and connect the main electrical supply.
