2.6 Protective devices, signs and PPE.
2.6.1 Guards and protective devices
In order to limit as far as possible, the dangers arising from moving elements, the
machine has been provided with fixed and moveable guards that are interlocking and
controlled by intra-locking switches.
To be able to carry out a packaging work cycle, the machine must have all its protective
devices active and the mobile guards closed.
The machine may function even when some mobile guards are open, but in this case the
manufacturer has to adopt additional protective measures.
The electrical equipment conforms to norm EN 60204-1:2006, and all the components
bear the EC mark and have been installed according to the manufacturer’s provisions.
Danger signs are posted on the door of the electric switchboard; acoustic danger signals
and prohibition signs are affixed on the covers of electric wires; danger sirens and
obligations and prohibition warnings placed on the machine’s guards.
12 fixed guards for the infeed conveyor belt (1:13 fig. 2.6.1.1A), enclose the
sides of the infeed, outfeed, upper and lower part of the product infeed conveyor and
protect the transmission organs. The guards are made of stainless steel and are
secured with screws onto the conveyor structure; some guards do not stay in place
once the screws are removed. The resistance of the guards is adequate to resist the
normal strains when running, undergoing cleaning, maintenance, and possible
bumps caused by the operator and for remote cases of chain breakage.
