DETAILS OF NON-GYNECOLOGIC SAMPLE PREPARATION STEPS
The following are the common steps for preparing a non-gynecologic sample with the ThinPrep 2000
system. Each step is explained in detail in the following sections.
D-1. Collection
D-2. Concentrate by centrifugation — 600g for 10 minutes.
D-3. Pour off supernatant and vortex to resuspend cell pellet.
D-4. Evaluate cell pellet appearance.

D-5. Add appropriate amount of specimen to PreservCyt Solution
vial.
Refer to page 1.12.
D-6. Allow to stand in PreservCyt solution for 15 minutes.
D-7. Run on ThinPrep 2000 processor using Sequence n, Fix, Stain,
and Evaluate.
WARNING:
Do not process a cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) specimen or other sample
type that is suspected of possessing prion infectivity (PrPsc) derived from a person with a
TSE, such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, on a ThinPrep processor. A TSE-contaminated
processor cannot be effectively decontaminated and therefore must be properly dis-
posed of in order to avoid potential harm to users of the processor or service personnel.
