Chapter 2. Appliance configurations
The topics in this chapter describe the TS7650 Appliance hardware configurations.
IBM Manufacturing performs the following tasks when configuring a TS7650
Appliance:
v Installation of the servers, disk controllers, disk expansion modules, and the
TSSC and its related components, into the AP1 frame.
v All required cable connections, except for the connections to the customer
Ethernet network, host system, and existing TSSC (if applicable).
v Configuration of the disk arrays.
v Installation of Red Hat Linux on each server through the use of a unique Red
Hat subscription number.
v Installation and configuration of the ProtecTIER software on each server.
v Preliminary configuration and setup on the KVM and the KVM switch.
v Configuration of ProtecTIER RAS on each server.
v RAS verification, including testing Call Home.
Note: If the IP address of an SMTP server is provided during RAS
configuration, the backend disk storage subsystems that communicate with
ProtecTIER RAS (which includes a Feature Code 3708: 4.8 TB Fibre Channel Disk
Controller if it has firmware levels supported by RAS) send problem reports to
the customer through email.
Attention: The ProtecTIER version 3.1.8 release on the 3958 AP1 only supports
a storage firmware level of 7.60.28.03 for the Feature Code 3708: 4.8 TB Fibre
Channel Disk Controller. Do not download any other version, because
unexpected results can occur.
