Renew the pump if the shaft diameter in the bush area is
less than 22.17 mm (0.873 in) or if the gear width is less
than shown in the following table.
Check that snap rings are in grooves on either side of drive
and idler gears.
Check for twisted or broken shaft splines or broken keyway
on shaft 17.
Housing and Covers
Check gear pockets in housings 4 and 15 for excessive
scoring or wear. Renew the pump if the internal diameter
of gear pockets is more than 53.54 mm (2.108in).
Renew the pump if the bore diameter of the bushes in
covers 2 or 23 or in adapter plate 13 is more than 22.33
mm (0.879 in).
Check for scoring on the cover or adapter plate faces.
Renew the pump if the face wear is more than 0.038 mm
(0.0015 in).
Check that bushes in cover 23 are flush with the cover
face. Check that bushes in adapter plate 13 are flush with
face B. Oil grooves in bushes of covers 2 and 23 and
adapter plate 13 should be in line with dowel pin holes and
180 degrees apart, so as to position the oil grooves close
to the respective dowel pin holes.
Assembly
Renew all parts supplied in the seal kit. Retain the ‘O’ rings
in their grooves with a little petroleum jelly.
Fit seals 11 and 21 into adapter plate 13 and cover 23 with
open part of the ‘V’ section downwards. Fit seals 10 and 20
into grooves in adapter plate and cover. Fit seal 9 over seal
10 and seal 19 over seal 20 with groove sides downwards.
Apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly to both milled gear
pockets of housings 4 and 15. The two half moon cavities
in the housings must face away from the adapter plate or
cover 23 . The smaller half moon port cavity must be on the
pressure side of the pump.
Place wear plate 8 on top of seal 11 and wear plate 18 on
top of seal 21 with bronze face upwards. The mid section
cut out in wear plates 8 and 18 must be on the suction side
of the pump.
Lubricate the gears before fitting.
When fitting housings and covers, make sure that marks
made before dismantling are correctly aligned.
Position a suitable sleeve over the shaft to protect the oil
seal 25 from damage on the shaft splines. Press the seal
into the cover to a depth of 5.08 mm (0.20 in) below the
front surface.
Tighten capscrews 1 in a diagonal pattern to 54 - 68 Nm
(40 - 50 lbf ft).
