Dismantling
Fig 27.
Clean the assembly thoroughly before attempting to
dismantle.
1 Drive out securing pin 1.
2 Drift shaft 2 out of the idler wheel assembly. Remove
and discard ‘O’ rings 3.
3 Remove bolts 4 and washers 5. Lift off bracket 6.
4 Remove idler wheel assembly 7.
5 Remove outer portion of metal face seals 8 from the
brackets 6 and the inner portions from the idler wheel
7.
6 Renew bush 9 as necessary.
Assembly
Assembly is a reversal of the dismantling procedure.
Renew all seals and ‘O’ rings. When fitting metal face seals
8 push the inner ring into the idler wheel bore on both sides
and the outer ring into the bore in item 6 on both sides.
Coat the metal face with oil before assembly.
When fitting shaft 2 take care to align the securing pin
holes.
Idler wheel end float should be 0.2 - 1.2 mm (0.008 - 0.047
in).
Fill with 57cc of EP60W/90 oil though the plug hole. Coat
threads of plug 10 with JCB Threadlocker & Sealer before
fitting.
