6.11 (Only for Du 3x5/x) Safe digital outputs
(Only for ) Safe digital output
If the DU 3xx/x is equipped with a safety control () it offers safe digital out-
puts (terminal X21A) with opposite ground pin on the front. The number of
outputs depends on the chosen variant of the control.
● -xx50: 10 safe digital outputs (8 x 0,5 A, 2 x 2 A)
The safe digital outputs are high-side switching.
Information
The connection of a safe digital output to a fast processing input is not rec-
ommended because the cyclical diagnosis function on the safe output can
cause unpredictable switching operation at the input.
WARNING!
For safety related application only external switching elements with a mini-
mum holding current of > 0,5 mA may be used.
If the ground connection of the safety control gets lost the SDO can provide
a cutoff current of 0,5 mA. At the safety analysis of the final application it
must be ensured that this case can not cause unwanted switch-on of a con-
nected actor or enabling of a safety control downstream safety function!
WARNING!
On safe outputs only relays may be used whose drop out voltage is > 2.4 V.
For more information and connection examples see the safety manual
"Functional Safety".
Deactitvation of inductive loads
If an inductive actuator (e.g. brake, valve) is connected to a safe digital out-
put, the magnetic energy is normally rapidly discharged via a protective cir-
cuit of this output when the safe digital output is switched off. The limiting
voltage that results on the load depends on various factors, e.g. the combi-
nation of outputs that are switched off and the output supply voltage, and
can range from typically -37 V to -13 V (at 24 V output supply).
