Repair GL16
7-34
To check the pilot flame:
1. Press the PILOT TEST/RESET button
on the flame safeguard (Figure 7-32) to
the IN position. In this mode, only the pi-
lot flame will light.
2. Open the left end frame door. The unit
will not operate while the safety interlock
switches are open. As a temporary mea-
sure during this procedure, defeat the
safety interlock switch in each end frame.
WARNING
The safety interlock switch
is only to be defeated
temporarily while the
procedure is being done.
Never operate the unit unless
all safety systems are
working correctly.
Serious Injury Could Result.
3. Operate the unit in pilot test mode and ob-
serve the flame condition.
WARNING
This procedure involves
open doors and close
proximity to flame. Take
every precaution to ensure
your safety.
To adjust the pilot flame:
NOTE: Propane or butane gas will
require more air than natural gas.
1. Loosen the locknut (Figure 7-31, B) on the
pilot combustion air fitting to adjust the flame.
2. Turn air adjustment screw (Figure 7-31, C)
so pilot flame is
not lazy and only at end of
flame pipe.
NOTE: The pilot flame should be
vigorous with flame extending from
spark plug to past end of flame pipe.
Some red or yellow color should
extend up through the center of the
flame to light the first burner tip. This
flame can be seen from the pilot UV
flame scanner.
3. Once there is a correct flame, tighten the
adjustment locknut.
4. The pilot gas valve usually requires no ad-
justment. Close slightly if flame is too large.
5. Close and secure the left end frame door.
WARNING
The safety interlock switch
is only to be defeated
temporarily while the
procedure is being done.
Never operate the unit
unless all safety systems are
working correctly.
6. Press the flame safeguard pilot test/reset but-
ton to the OUT position.
Contact the Chicago Dryer Company factory
Service Department if further help is needed.
