Low Voltage (110-120Vac) Power System
Mains/Shore Power
MDC Caravans are built with an integrated 110-120V Alternating Current (110-120V AC) power
system for charging the battery and running appliances, such as the onboard inverter, air
conditioner, and other devices like laptop chargers, televisions, and toasters. The primary power
source for this system is via an
external power connection from the continental U.S. power grid, an
RV power pedestal at a campground/park or a local site supply. Your caravan connects to these
services via a
30A RV power inlet located on the offside wall of the caravan and a
supplied
30A NEMA TT-30 extension lead.
RV Power Pedestal Services
Most RV parks and campgrounds in the U.S. provide a combination of upto three
standard electrical service options at power pedestals:
50A service (NEMA 14-50)220-250V, 50A, split-phase, used for large
RVs with multiple air conditioners and heavy power needs.
30A service (NEMA TT-30) – 110-120V, 30A, single-phase,
commonly used for mid-sized RVs, including MDC Caravans.
15-20A service (NEMA 5-20, standard household outlet) – 110-
120V, 15-20A, primarily for smaller RVs, pop-up campers, or auxiliary
use.
Connecting to 30A Service
The Renogy REGO HF Inverter-Charger in your caravan is wired to the 110-
120V AC system, and its charging function is powered via the 30A RV power
inlet. To use 30A service, you will need a 30A RV power cord plugged into a
30A TT-30 outlet at the campground or power pedestal.
Charging at Home
Most homes are equipped with 15A or 20A outlets, which are not designed to
fully power an RV. If a
dedicated 30A outlet is unavailable, you can use a 15A-
to-30A adapter, but power will be limited, similar to using a 20A pedestal
outlet. For full functionality, consider installing a
dedicated 30A RV outlet at home.
Using 50A or 20A Service with a 30A RV
If only 50A service is available, you will need a 50A-to-30A adapter (dogbone adapter) to safely connect your caravan.
If
only 20A service is available, you can use a 15/20A-to-30A adapter, but power will be very limitedrunning high-draw
appliances like air conditioners or microwaves may trip the breaker.
Never leave power cords coiled while in use, as this can cause overheating and fire hazards.
Always lay cords out flat to avoid tripping hazards and damage.
