Toilet Maintenance
Routine Use and Cleaning
1. Before Use:
• Ensure the waste tank contains at least 2 liters of water with a suitable toilet additive to aid waste breakdown.
2. After Use:
• Flush the toilet as instructed using the flush button or lever.
• Keep the valve blade closed when not in use to minimize odors.
3. Regular Cleaning:
• Clean the bowl with a soft brush and Thetford-approved cleaner.
• DO NOT leave water in the bowl when not in use.
• Wipe external surfaces with a soft, damp cloth.
Emptying the Cassette Waste Tank
1. Empty the tank when the waste level indicator signals or at least every 2-3 days during regular use.
2. Ensure the valve blade is fully closed before removing the cassette.
3. Take the waste tank to an approved RV dump station or sanitary disposal point.
4. Open the emptying spout and press the air release button while pouring to prevent splashing.
5. Rinse the tank thoroughly with clean water before reinserting it into the toilet compartment.
Seal and Valve Maintenance
• Clean and lubricate the valve blade seal and pressure vent seals monthly using Thetford Seal Lubricant to prevent leaks and
ensure smooth operation.
• DO NOT use petroleum-based lubricants like Vaseline—these can cause seal degradation.
Toilet Winterization & Long-Term Storage
1. Drain the Cassette & Flush Water System:
• Empty and clean the waste holding tank and flush tank before long-term storage.
2. Dry Storage:
• Store the cassette tank with the cap removed to allow airflow and prevent odors.
3. Avoid Freezing Damage:
• If storing in freezing conditions, ensure all water is removed to prevent damage to seals and tank components.
• DO NOT use automotive antifreeze—it is not safe for Thetford toilet systems.

Protecting from Mold
Mold is exceedingly difficult to clean once a porous surface is affected. There are several ways
you can prevent the occurrence of mold in your trailer:
• Never leave your trailer packed away wet. If you must leave a campsite with wet canvas or
a damp interior, be sure to open and dry out your tent thoroughly at the very first
opportunity when you get home. Mold can develop in just a couple of days, so do not take
the risk.
• When packing up dry, check under the mattress to ensure there is no build-up of condensation
overnight. Body heat on a mattress can create enough temperature difference with the exterior
for moisture to form underneath. If left unchecked, this can cause mold when your trailer is
stored.
