Winterizing Your Trailer
Winterizing your travel trailer is a crucial step to ensure its plumbing system remains intact and operational during the cold
winter months. When water freezes, it expands, which can cause pipes, tanks, and fittings to crack or burst, leading to costly
repairs. Proper winterization protects the water lines, plumbing fixtures, and holding tanks from freeze damage while preventing
unpleasant odors and mold growth caused by stagnant water.
Recommended tools and material needed:
Non-toxic RV antifreeze At least 3 gallons to ensure no shortages.
Water pump converter kit – Connector to siphon antifreeze to the water pump.
Towels To clean any water spills.
Bucket – To catch draining water or antifreeze.
Adjustable wrench To open water tank drain valves.
Prepare the Trailer for Winterizarion
Drain the water system
1. Disconnect the trailer from any external water sources (i.e., city water inlet)
2. Switch off the water pump.
3. Ensure the water heater is turned off at the appliance power switch and has cooled completely.
4. Release the pressure from the water heater by opening the pressure release valve.
5. Drain the water heater by pulling the Easy Drain Lever down as far as it will go.
For more information, refer to the Truma AquaGo manual provided.
6. Drain all water tanks by opening the drain valves (including gray water tank).
7. Open all faucets, including hot and cold lines, to allow water to drain completely.
8. Flush the toilet several times to empty the bowl and tank.
9. Open the low-point drains (both hot and cold lines) and allow them to fully empty.
10. Once water stops flowing, close all faucets and drain valves securely.
Bypass the Water Heater
1. Locate the water heater bypass valve found behind the water heater.
2. Close the inlet and outlet valves leading to and from the water heater.
3. Open the bypass valve to create a direct connection in the plumbing system, isolating the water heater.
4. Double-check that the water heater is completely bypassed and no antifreeze will enter the tank.
