Appendix D - Glossary
This glossary contains a combination of terminology, buzz-words and, jargon from this manual. MTi
recognizes that the meaning and usage of some audio/video terms, varies in different geographical areas.
Since an all-encompassing ‘Bible’ of definitions would be too lengthy in this context, we have defined these
terms as they are applied in this manual. (For more information on some glossary entries, use the index to
find the appropriate section of the manual.)
2-Channel – A left and right signal with each having a ground (common or isolated). The signal
can be high or low-level and can be an input or an output.
4-Channel – Two left and right signals from one source with each having a ground (common or
isolated). The signals can be high or low-level (but must all be one or the other), and
can be inputs or outputs.
6 Channel – Three left and right signals from one source with each having a ground (common or
isolated). The signals can be high or low-level (but must all be one or the other), and
can be inputs or outputs.
ACM – Audio MVP Control Module, part of the MVP Speaker Equalizer.
Active – A signal that has been amplified to audible level. The opposite of Passive.
Active Component – An electronic component that is designed to receive and process an Active signal at
its input.
Booster Equalizer – An Equalizer designed to receive a 2-Channel high level audio signal and process and
output an amplified 4-Channel high-level signal.
Bus – The signal path created by the wires interconnecting the Switching Modules and
Chains in a Matrix System
and through which the component signal is transmitted.
Bypass – To route a component signal around or past another component or group of
components.
Bypass Position – The first component Position on the first Switching Module in a Chain that is used to
provide a switched path for routing signals past component groups not selected at
the MVP Control Panel.
Chain – A group of Switching Modules linked together by their Control Cables and finally
connected to the MVP Control Panel back.
CM – MVP Control Module.
Common Ground – Having left and right signal grounds electrically the same. Can be either one or two
ground wires.
Component – Any electronic (usually audio or video) merchandise.
Control Cable – The cable that transmits control information from the MVP Control Panel to and
between the Switching Modules of the Matrix System.
Crossover – Either an active or passive audio component that assigns different, filtered frequency
levels to one or more pairs of audio signals.
