7. Interconnect the Signal Bus
Connect RCA cables and/or wires between low level and high level input/output bus connectors on all the
Modules in a Chain. Then make connections from Chain to Chain to form the signal bus. Consult the
System Diagram (pages 85-105) that is closest to your application for an illustration of these connections.
7.a Bypass Positions
If a Chain contains components that need to be able to be bypassed during some
demonstrations (e.g., Amplifiers and processors), the output bus connectors from the previous
Chain are connected to the A position on the first Switching Module in the bypass Chain rather
than into the bus connector on that Switching Module. Then that Switching Module will switch
only seven components rather than eight.
For example, if you have a 1214 switching the output of the head units into Passive Equalizers,
the output bus of the 1214 is connected to the input positions on one low-level side of the 1320
which is switching the input (and one output) for the Passive EQs. With this hookup, when no
Passive Equalizers are selected on the MVP Control Panel, the signal can pass directly through
these Switching Modules to the next Chain in the System. (Refer to System Diagrams, (pages
85-105) for bypass connection illustrations, or to pages 15 and 25 for more information on
bypass.)
7.b Input/Output Switching
All Modules can switch a signal in either direction, and so can be used to switch either a
component’s input or output. Furthermore, the dual and combination Modules with two
connector sets per Position (1312, for example) can switch a component’s 2-Channel input and
output simultaneously. See pages 55-57 for coverage of these concepts.
7.c Activating Multiple Components in a Chain
Only one Position per Module (or per Chain) can normally be activated at a time. Should your
System require that more than one component be activated with a single Position, such as
having two sets of Speakers on the same Chain play together, an MTi Customer Service
Representative can help you with a special wiring method that will achieve this.
At this point, it’s time to install your MVP Control Panel, and then you can make the
connections to the your installed Switching Modules.
