To trace the scan guide lines on the surface to inspect
1. Define the index value. Do the following:
a) On the OmniScan instrument’s menu, select Scan > Area > Index Res.
b) Click the Index Res. parameter.
The value displayed represents the beam’s effective width.
c) Calculate the index value as follows:
Beam effective width (Index Res. parameter value) − overlap = index value
An overlap value of zero results in no overlap between one-line scans.
d) Select Scan > Encoder > Encoder 2 = Resolution.
e) In the Resolution box, enter the index value calculated in step 1.c.
2. On the surface to inspect, draw parallel guide lines using the calculated index
value (see Figure 4-9 on page 61).
Since the laser beam is located on the center of the probe, the first line is measured
from the edge of the area to inspect, using half the calculated index value. The other
guide lines are measured using the full calculated index value.
