3. If the valve clearance is not within specification, refer
to Valve Clearance Inspection page 2.33.
MEASUREMENT
Intake Valve Clearance (cold):
0.006 in (0.15 mm) ± 0.002 (0.05 mm)
Exhaust Valve Clearance (cold):
0.010 in (0.25 mm) ± 0.002 (0.05 mm)
4. Repeat steps 1-3 until all valves have been
inspected.
REASSEMBLY
1. Install the valve cover. Refer to Valve Cover Service
page 3.35.
2. Install the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Service
page 4.20
3. Install the outer clutch cover. Refer to PVT Clutch
Cover Service page 6.7.
4. Connect the black negative battery cable to the
battery.
TORQUE
Battery Terminal Fastener:
40 in-lbs (5 Nm)
5. Start the engine to ensure proper operation.
CAM CHAIN TENSIONER INSPECTION
1. Locate the cam chain tensioner on the MAG side of
the engine near the starter.
2. Remove the plunger bolt
q
and the spring.
3. Remove the two tensioner mounting bolts
w
and
tensioner gasket.
4. Push on the tensioner lock
e
and manually move the
plunger in and out. It should move freely. If it does not
move freely, replace the tensioner assembly.
