alignment. Refer
to Driven Clutch

Warm clutches
up by driving at
moderate speeds
in high gear for 2
miles; Does
Vehicle come to a
stop?

Probable
interference
between
movable
sheave towers
and spider
buttons.
Remove belt
and drive
spring.
Reinstall
cover and
operate clutch
by hand. Is
there
resistance to
motion?
Inspect spider
rollers -
Remove the
drive clutch
cover by
referring to
Belt Removal.
Apply load on
each roller
firmly with
your finger
while rotating.
Do all three
rotate freely?
→
No
Service
Spider
Rollers.
Refer to
PVT Inner
Cover
Disassem-
bly.
Yes

Replace idle
bearing/slide
sleeve assembly
and helix. Refer
to Clutch
Inspection and
Bushing Service.
PVT System
operating
properly at this
time. No further
action is
necessary.
Remove
spider and
lightly sand
with a high grit
sandpaper
(220 or
higher).
Remove
material so
button rides
smoothly in
tower.
OR
Replace drive
clutch.
Inspect the
idle bearing
for free
rotation. Does
it rotate
freely?

No
Replace
the idle
bearing/
slide
sleeve
assembly
and helix
Yes

replace the
