9. Lift up on the shift shaft rail

and move the rail
assembly rearward to allow the shift fork pins to be
removed from the shift drum

. Remove the shift
drum from the transmission housing.
10.Remove the shift shaft and forks as an assembly.
11. Remove the differential assembly

by lifting
underneath the gear or by tapping the shaft from the
opposite side.
12.Remove the input shaft assembly

, and idler shaft assembly

13.Remove the four screws retaining the pinion shaft
plate

NOTICE
One screw is longer

and than the others and must be
put back in the correct location.
14.Remove the pinion shaft assembly

15.Inspect all gear and shaft assemblies for damage.
16.Check the bearings for damage and that they are
easy to turn. Replace any questionable bearings.
17.To disassemble the shift shaft rail remove the snap
ring
2%
from the end of the shift rail on either side.
CAUTION
Use caution when disassembling the shift rail. The
compressed springs on the shift rail may pop off
causing injury.
18.Remove all seals from the gearcase halves and clean
the cases in preparation for assembly.
TRANSMISSION
