7.3 SCL COMMAND LINE FORMAT
An SCL command line contains four fields, separated by three colons. The command line is terminated
by a semicolon and carriage return:
<Address>:<Subaddress>:<Command>:<Parameter=Value>;<CR>
For example, to set primary timing to EXTERNAL in a terminal multiplexer whose network address is
3, type:
3:TERM:SET:PTIME=EXT;
and then press the [ENTER] key on your terminal or PC keyboard.
In the example above, "3" is the target multiplexer's address; "TERM" is the subaddress (also known as
the card address); "SET" is the command; "PTIME" is the parameter being set; and "EXT" is the
desired parameter value. Note that colons (:) terminate the address, subaddress, and command field
while a semicolon (;) terminates the parameter field, the last field in an SCL command line.
In the sample SCL commands shown in this manual, the carriage return character required at the end of
every SCL command line will not be shown explicitly. However, remember that in all cases, SCL
commands must end with a carriage return character (hex 0D). When typing commands manually,
simply press the ENTER key at the end of every command line.
7.3.1 ADDRESS FIELD
The first field in an SCL command line is the address field. Valid SCL network addresses are the
integers from 1 to 500. Leading zeros are not required. Zero “0” and 78 are not valid SCL addresses
and should not be used.
The address field is optional when sending SCL commands, but can be useful when two or more
multiplexers (or other RFL remote controllable devices) are connected to a central controller. It
provides a means of identifying which multiplexer command was addressed to when reviewing records
of such commands.
If the address field in an SCL command contains a number, only the multiplexer which is set to that
address will respond. If the address field is left blank, any multiplexer receiving the command through
its local RS-232 port will respond as long as it is valid, and the UNIVersal parameter is ON. (See
Paragraph 5.13.5).
If a multiplexer is in ESF framing mode, SCL commands which are not addressed to it are sent on the
FDL link to other multiplexers until one matches the address. These remote accesses will take longer
to respond, but in all other respects are equal to local SCL commands and replies.
