5.6 SETTING E1 TRANSMITTER TIMING (TIME Group)
Depending on which multiplexer it is in, a CM4 module can operate in one of four E1 transmitter
timing modes:
Loop Looped
Int Internal
Ext External
Thru Through
In terminal multiplexers, the E1 transmitter timing mode can be set to Internal, External, or Looped by
setting the appropriate function in the TIME group. (See Table 5-3.) In drop/insert multiplexers, the E1
transmitter timing mode is automatically set to Through. No user setup is necessary or allowed.
Ta
ble 5-3. TIME group
Function Available On Description
LOOP Terminal multiplexers only Looped. The E1 transmitter of a loop-timed terminal multiplexer
derives its timing from the received E1 signal; the multiplexer's E1
output is synchronized to its E1 input.
INT Terminal multiplexers only Internal. The E1 transmitter of an internally-timed IMUX 2000
terminal multiplexer derives its timing from the multiplexer's own
internal 2.041-mHz oscillator.
INT is the d
efault primary timing mode in IMUX 2000 terminal
multiplexers, where CM4 mode is set to TERM.
EXT
Use on terminal multiplexers
only. A
vailable on D/I
multiplexers for test purposes.
External. The E1 transmitter of an externally-timed IMUX 2000
terminal multiplexer derives its timing from the external source
connected to the External Timing Input pins on the
E1 I/O connector. (See Section 2.) External timing may cause
fram
in
g errors in D/I multiplexers.
THRU Drop/insert multiplexers only Through. Both CM4 modules derive their transmitter timing from
the E1 signal received by the other CM4 m
odule. The E1 output
of the DI-A module is synchronized to the E1 input of the
DI-B module. The E1 output of the DI-B module is synchronized to
the E1 input of the DI-A module. (See Figures 5-6 and 5-7.)
THRU is the only available primary timing mode in IMUX 2000
drop/insert multiplexers, where CM4 mode is set to DI-A
or DI-B.
