7.5.4 “WHO” & “NEXT” FAMILY OF COMMANDS
The WHO command allows a user to determine which modules are present in a node.
The WHO command has the following format:
<Address>:<Subaddress>:WHO:;
An example of a WHO command is as follows:
::WHO:;
An example of a WHO command response is as follows:
*OK
FROM NET ADDRESS=2
CM4R CONFIGURED AS TERM
CHANNEL=14, TYPE 79
DACS PRESENT;
The NEXT family of commands is used to determine the type and content of the nodes in a network.
In E1 mode, these commands are handled by the NCM card.
The user propagates the NEXT command through the network by using the last returned address to
address the following NEXT command. For example, if the PC is connected to a terminal in node 1,
the following sequence would result:
user ::WHO:;
FROM ADDRESS 1 common module
...;
user 1:TERM;NEXT:;
FROM ADDRESS 2 common module
...;
user 2:DI-A:NEXT:;
etc.
The NEXT commands for a drop-and-insert are always issued to DI-A since this is where the
multiplexer controller resides.
