Section 5. SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
5.1 INTRODUCTION
This section contains information on how to set up the IMUX 2000 and operate it under local control.
5.2 CM4 MODES
A CM4 module can operate in one of three modes:
TERM Terminal (terminal multiplexer only)
DI-A Drop/Insert Direction A (drop/insert multiplexer only)
DI-B Drop/Insert Direction B (drop/insert multiplexer only)
The CM4 displays its mode for several seconds immediately after it is powered, either by plugging it
into a powered Main Shelf or by applying power to the Main Shelf. If the CM4 is not set to operate in
one of the three available modes, it displays SPAR, meaning "spare".
5.2.1 HOW TO SET THE CM4 MODE
When the IMUX 2000 is equipped with an electrical E1 interface, the CM4 mode is selected by the
placement of jumpers on the applicable Module Adapter as shown in Figures 5-1, 5-2 and 5-3, and
Table 2-19. When the IMUX 2000 is equipped with an optical fiber interface, the CM4 mode is
selected by setting DIP switch SW1 on the applicable Optical Interface Adapter (OIA) as shown in
Figure 5-4 and Table 5-1.
Each CM4 module determines its mode by "reading" these jumper settings. As a result, any CM4
module can be replaced by a spare (or the two CM4 modules in a drop/insert multiplexer can be
swapped) without affecting mode setup. Other settings that affect system operation are made on the
CM4 module itself. (See paragraph 5.5 for more information.)
Refer to Table 2-2 to determine which module adapter to use for your application. Refer to Table 2-3
to determine which OIA to use for your application.
