8.3.1 TERMINAL MULTIPLEXER AT LOCATION 1 (INTERNALLY TIMED)
Use the following procedure to check out the head-end, internally-timed terminal multiplexer and
Location 1. It is assumed that this multiplexer is already installed, wired, and powered.
NOTE
When you are facing the front of a Main Shelf, the "up" position of the GROUP and
SET/NEXT toggle switches is to the right (away from the circuit board, and the "down"
position is to the left (toward the circuit board).
1. Verify that the CM4 module is in the terminal mode as follows:
a. Remove the CM4 module for a few seconds and then re-insert it.
b. Look at the display on the CM4 module.
The display should read "TERM" if the module is in the terminal mode. If
it does, go to step 2.
If the display reads anything else, check the settings of jumpers J1 and J2
on the MA-270R Module Adapter at the rear of the shelf. If the multiplexer
uses a fiber optic interface, check the setting of DIP switch SW1 on the OIA
at the rear of the shelf. (See Section 5 for more information on jumper and
switch settings.)
c. Repeat steps 1a and 1b to verify that the CM4 is now in the terminal mode.
2. Verify that CM4 E1 transmitter timing is set to INT (internal) as follows:
a. Press down on the GROUP switch several times to display the TIME group.
b. Press down on the SET/NEXT switch several times to display the INT function.
c. Look at the ON/OFF indicator next to the display.
If the green part of the ON/OFF indicator next to the display lights, the
module is set for internal timing. Go to step 3. If the red part of the
ON/OFF indicator lights, press up on the SET/NEXT switch twice to set
timing to internal. The green part of the ON/OFF indicator should now be
lit.
